Construction on the street, sidewalk and driveway on the SW corner of Center and 17th is affecting pedestrian movement for about three weeks, into early June—not for 10 days, as originally announced in a 5/13/13 Parking Update. In addition, the driveway closure on Center St is for the duration, not just for a few weeks.
Parking: Only one exit onto Center St is open. Keep the drive aisle clear; obey No Parking signs.
Walking: The walk is longer between Lot C and the garage. To travel from the parking lot to work, you cross Center St, then cross 17th, then cross Center St again.  Follow the designated pedestrian route.
Thanks for putting safety first!

Due to construction, there’s no pedestrian connection between the Center St sidewalk and Lot/B Advantis May 8 through May 12. On wheels or on foot, Rhone St is the only way to enter or exit this lot for the rest of this week. Reminder: Let’s be good neighbors. Please park in employee parking lots, not the neighborhood. This summer, your safest choices for crossing SE 17th are at Center and Mall. Until sometime in the fall, construction conditions are such that crossing at Boise is not recommended. Always use extra caution when crossing 17th. We don’t want anyone getting hurt. Thanks  for taking the time to choose the safest possible pedestrian route. This Saturday, May 4, construction will block both parking lot driveways on Boise. Lot D (across from Maintenance) will be closed. Any vehicles left in that lot after 6:30 a.m. will be inaccessible until the evening. Lot C (across from Transportation) will be open, but traffic patterns will change. Vehicles will enter/exit via Center, and parking will be perpendicular, not angled.

For about a week, Center Street driveway of Lot A will be closed for utility trench digging. Cars traveling to or from Lot A or the bus yard will use 17th Avenue, not Center Street. This driveway closure is expected to begin Monday, May 6, and last about a week. Construction schedules are, as always, subject to change. Watch for signs; be alert; give yourself a little extra time to enter or exit Lot A or the bus yard. Read the Parking Update.

The top three floors of Center St are completely unrecognizable. Drop ceilings and interior walls have been removed--and the orange carpet too! Sydney Nguyen from Capital Projects takes construction pictures almost every day; here's a slideshow with a few highlights from April. The Moving Together project is transforming Center St into TriMet's new Operations Headquarters.

After careful study by staff from many departments, a decision has been made to move almost all TriMet employees out of the first floor of Center Transportation for about a year, during the most intense period of construction at 4012 SE 17th. Between this summer and next spring, almost all business currently handled in and around the Center report area will move to a temporary facility in the parking lot in front of the building. The benefits of this approach include:
  • Safety
  • More stable environment for employees
  • Planning efficiencies
  • Construction efficiencies
  • Opportunity to reimagine the report area
